• 'Under a cherry tree, all burdens of life fly away'
    Mehmet Murat Ildan

  • ‘The cherry blossom tree is truly a sight to behold, especially when it is in full riotous bloom. There are several varieties of the cherry blossom tree, and while most of them produce flowering branches full of small pinkish-hued flowers, some of them produce actual cherries’
    Homaro Cantu

    Aristotle

About us

A combined -omics and bioinformatics approach to generate the atlas of Greek-oriented sweet cherry genetic resources.
gall-img-011

EXPECTED OUTCOMES

SweetBiOmics aims to create and integrate cutting edge genomic, epigenetic, transcriptomic, proteomic, metabolomic and phenotypic data with advanced statistical and bioinformatics approaches focused on the analysis of the entire Greek sweet cherry (Prunus avium L.) germplasm collection.

SweetBiOmics will include a significant outreach and extension component to communicate its progress and results. The outreach plan is focused on developing materials and programming for three audiences: (a) cherry growers and processors who bring cherry products to consumers, (b) cherry breeders and geneticists, and (c) the general consuming public.

The S-RNase-based gametophytic self-incompatibility (GSI) reproduction barrier is important for maintaining genetic diversity in species of the families Solanaceae, Plantaginaceae and Rosaceae. Among the plant taxa with S-RNase-based GSI, Prunus species in the family Rosaceae exhibit Prunus-specific…
